Our coffee connections convinced us to put the Suburban Spotlight on The Wired Owl Coffee Co at Sandgate. From Salisbury to Sandgate … it was off to the other side of Brisbane to touch base with Aaron for our second spotlight. Hang on! Aaron from Wired Owl … that rings a bell … a quick check of Bean Brewding records and bingo! The owners of this warm and friendly suburban café joined us on one of our early walking tours of the Valley.
Back then, Wired Owl consisted of a mobile coffee option that targeted events and other haunts to serve up their coffee delights. A year ago they spotted a corner store for lease and the owl finally had a place to nest. One thing hasn’t changed … their coffee is still supplied by Wolff Coffee Roasters. With the range of colourful coffee bags on the shelf, you could be forgiven for thinking that’s how Rainbow Street got its name!
This suburban special is full of charm and has a welcoming décor and fit out thanks to Aaron and his dad. The coffee was delightful … a Colombian single origin as a long black that could best be described as juicy. Then, following a great chat and fond reminisce, it was time for a piccolo on the Weiss blend that hit the spot.
Wow! What a place to enjoy delightful specialty coffee. Get your eyes open wide, head to Sandgate and join the parliament of local owls who drink with the Wolff – you won’t be disappointed! If you’re going to visit take the time, drive to the waterfront and check the view. Tell us if you know a hidden gem we could visit as our next Suburban Spotlight just like The Wired Owl Coffee Co.
