Swich Espresso

Update: Rumour confirmed and implemented – the deck has been added out the back! What a wonderful addition. It is still a work in progress, with bench tops and sails to come. Swich is still a wonderful suburban coffee shop to chill and enjoy great coffee and friendly service.

There is little doubt that Elixir Coffee is one of those wonderful coffee places we have enjoyed in Brisbane. When we found out that Swich Espresso at Holland Park West serves Elixir Coffee, we were keen to check it out. Even though Swich Espresso is located on busy Logan Road, there is ample parking down behind the cafe, off Arnold St (and you can even enter through the back stairs – bargain!). The cafe offers limited, yet intimate seating both inside and out – rumour has it that a deck might be built on out the back – stay tuned. It is a far cry from Joanne Beauty Salon that used to occupy the shop. We chose to sit inside and enjoyed the pleasant decor including the wonderful sweets display. The staff were very friendly and Lisa was a wonderful host. We chatted about Elixir and other coffee things.

20120726-200705.jpgThe blend on offer was the Fratelli (meaning brothers in Italian). There was no single origin on offer, as it had just arrived and Lisa wanted to make sure they had time to work out the best grind and the best way to run through the La Marzocco before they sold to the customer. How refreshing to know that they put in the effort to get things right for the customer. True justice to the Elixir passion for a great coffee experience. The flat whites looked superb as they arrived at our table and were a pleasure to drink. My drinking buddy commented, “this is really good coffee!” A relief, because Swich was my suggestion based on a trusted referral. We backed up for another … always a good sign! Fratelli is promoted as a bold blend offering delicate flavours – it sure delivered. BTW – The chocolate freckle was a great addition!

20120831-153748.jpgIt is always great to find suburban coffee shops that deliver coffee, and service, that would comfort the most discerning coffee drinkers. We were made feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. Swich Espresso is a pleasant place to meet over a coffee for business or pleasure. It would be a wonderful ‘local’ coffee shop. So much so, one brewding bean went back to have the single origin from Costa Rica. Cameron suggested a doppio for a great flavour experience – he was right  – awesome!

For the complete coffee experience, we give 7 beans out of 10!
