Bellissimo Coffee is yet another gem in Wandoo St, Fortitude Valley. When we visited Campos Coffee we saw heaps of people standing under a shop front – a quick investigation revealed Bellissimo Coffee. It took a while, but we found our way back and were keen to sample the coffee—one of us had tried their award winning Emporium blend a week earlier at Goa Doodle Do and it was excellent!

It is quite surprising when you walk in, your senses are stimulated with all things coffee – aromas, coffee beans and equipment on display, the pulsating Conti machines purring. It was a real ‘Castle’ moment, hard to nail down the perfect description—’it was just the vibe!’ Multiple beans, both blends and single origins were on offer and set up like Elixir Coffee. There was Coffee brewing and filtering equipment for sale but not by the cup – for drinking pleasure, it was espresso machine only.

20120914-130145.jpgHaving said that, there are plenty of beans to choose from for your morning cup. Two blends are available including the Italian dark roast which is the standard house blend, three single origins and a decaf in the hoppers – spoilt for choice! We headed to the mezzanine floor to await a flat white on the house blend and a long black on the Kenyan single origin. The long black was complex and tasted like berry and then the earth. The blend provided a strong aroma and punchy taste rather than subtle coffee flavours… the barista’s tip to steer clear of a black option was sound advice. A trip back to the counter, led to a pair of doppios on the Costa Rican single – and a thumbs up from the barista! They arrived in tiny white cups that made us feel a bit like Gulliver on his travels. The aroma was wonderful, the crema was wandooful and the taste was sensational. Our palette’s were dancing for hours afterwards. It would have been a contender for the best doppio on Bean Brewding’s 5000 view edition!

There was a constant stream of people during the morning rush. Everyone seemed content and were well looked after by the friendly staff. There is a small Probat roaster that roasts all the Bellissimo beans on offer, usually everyday from 10am. It would be tough living near the Valley, waking up everyday and having to decide, ‘where do I go for coffee?’ what a dilemma.

We give Bellissimo Coffee a big thumbs up and 8.5 beans!
