Whether its electric cars, solar panels or carbon tax everyone is talking about sustainability. Not everyone can afford to buy the latest hybrid car or install solar panels but if you are keen to do your bit and make your mark then a KeepCup reusable cup could be the perfect start.
A KeepCup is basically a reusable coffee cup that you can take with you each time you go and buy a coffee. The aim is to reduce the amount of disposable coffee cups that go on to landfill. According to the KeepCup website:
‘International Paper estimates that in the United States alone over 58 billion disposable cups are discarded every year, the majority relegated to landfill’
A staggering thought and one which the founders of KeepCup are trying to address. Also according to their website:
‘KeepCup users have diverted an estimated 30,000 tonnes of disposable cup waste from landfill and have stopped 70,000 trees being felled for paper pulp.’
KeepCups are BPA free, non-toxic and are barista friendly. In other words they come in a variety of sizes that are equivalent to standard disposable coffee cups (4oz, 8oz, 12oz and 16oz), and are designed to easily fit under the group heads of most espresso machines. They are dishwasher safe and easily fit into most car cup holders. You can even take things one step further and help your barista by using the pre-scribed coffee descriptions that surround the rubber grip and indicate your preferred drink.
KeepCups start at AUD $10 and come in a variety of colour combinations, you can even custom design your own cup or have your company’s logo/branding printed on them. A recent addition to the online store is a range of cups in AFL team colours. They also make great gift ideas and you can easily order gift vouchers from the online store.
The website is really interesting too and has loads of information and you can follow KeepCup on Facebook and Twitter.
We at Bean Brewding think KeepCups are a great idea and a fantastic way to do your bit for the environment.
